01 / MEASURE

How much space?

Area input method

3 inches and 100 lb/cu ft are editable examples, not product specifications. Use a supplier density matching your gravel and moisture condition. Weight estimates depend on this value. No compaction or waste allowance is included.

Bag & bulk purchasing
Bag label units

Check your product’s bag label and supplier’s order increment. Bags and bulk are alternative purchases; do not add them together. Tons here are US short tons (2,000 lb), not metric tonnes.

BEFORE YOU ORDER

Volume first. Weight from density.

01 Measure the volume

Square feet × depth in inches ÷ 12 gives cubic feet. Divide by 27 for cubic yards. For irregular spaces, add non-overlapping sections and enter their total as a known area. This is geometric volume with no compaction or waste allowance.

02 Enter your material’s density

Estimated pounds = cubic feet × density in lb/cu ft. Divide by 2,000 for US short tons. Use supplier data matching the product and moisture condition; this is not a measured delivery weight.

03 Compare bags and bulk

For weight-labeled bags, divide estimated pounds by pounds per bag. For volume-labeled bags, divide cubic feet by cubic feet per bag. Round up once. Bulk rounds up to your supplier increment. The rounded order’s weight is shown separately from the required weight.
